Card went out today for a friend's birthday. I hope she likes it. (the stamped images are a deep purple. My camera phone doesn't pick up the true colors but was in a rush as I heard the mailman's truck close by... thanks to his squeeky brakes. LOL

And the inside... a nice change from the normal "Happy birthday". :)

Lemonade Stand - Trash to Treasure

I have been wanting to make a Lemonade stand for my little girl for quite some time but wasn't sure how to start. Then it hit me... Recycle (or as they say now: Upcycle) a twin size headboard!

I am thrilled how it turned out. My husband was impressed. And my daughter loved it. She even made $11 from the sales of the lemonade and bottled water. I had purchased a 2 gallon dispensing cooler -- has a spigot on it and filled that with fresh pink lemonade. I didn't want to worry about her having to pour from a regular pitcher. I had the 2 gallon cooler sitting right next to her on an old end table I got for free on the side of the road!

Here is the headboard that I bought at a yard sale for $2.00 It was very sturdy.

DURING: Sanded it down quickly and my husband cut some boards out for legs to make a bit more sturdy, as our driveway is on a slope. The legs can be removed for easier storage.

Hubby removed the shorter board that was here and added a much longer piece of plywood he had in his workshop. (this will eventually get painted with chalk board paint so Bethany can write her "menu" of items she will have for sale.) I got a pint of green chalk board paint for $1.50 at a yard sale!!

My husband also added a block piece of scrap wood with a drilled out area. This will be where the umbrella stand will sit in. He also drilled a hole on the top of the headboard -- which will be her "counter" space.

AFTER: All set up -- the front. The light purple paint was free!

The back without the umbrella... I had also placed a tension rod even with the block of wood, so when my daughter had her new cups still in the plastic wrapper, they would not fall off and onto the ground. When she's older, she won't need the tension rod. (picture of the back is at the bottom of this post.)

Without the legs attached (which come off with nuts and bolts for easier storage.) I have a feeling this lemonade stand will be around for a long time.

11-2011 Dream House Card.

The other day I woke up from a dream I had -- I was standing in our new home - in the living room, and I was creating a card... (not sure why I wasn't in my office but whatever.) I was standing on the hardwood floor looking out a floor to ceiling window and the view was just like this. I added the "faith" as I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The window has a piece of acitate behind it, so it looks like a real window.

This is the group of cards I made for my friend, Tracy. She's a breast cancer survivor and she's my age. We've known each other since the 5th grade (10 years old) and still remain good friends today. As my donation to her walk, I make 20 cards and envelopes for her to send out.

This is a pin that I made for her using recycled window blinds.

Saturday was our every other month get together at our LSS and it's a nice bunch of ladies. We begin around 11am and have someone show a demo a demo, then we have lunch, then another demo and we wrap it up by 3pm.

This hummingbird image was colored with Prisma pencils and Gamsol. Then covered with sticky paper and finally, put micro beads on it for a stained glass look. Normally I don't use these types of stamps because of all of the coloring but LOVED it and will be keeping an eye out for images like this! I will put it on a card but wanted to share.

And this was a little demo I showed at the get together... Watercolor paper, spritzes and fun with a bird template. The wing is on with thin or thick pop dots. You can make a face on them or not.... Use as an ornament or tag or on a cardfront.

I absolutely love Trash 2 Treasure projects... here are two.

First up: I got this coffee mug for 20cents... put some Plaster of Paris in it, coiled some wire to hold photos, and added some moss (from the tree in my backyard). I did boil the moss in water on the stove for about 5 minutes to kill any bugs that may be in it. I let it air dry for an hour and then just stuffed it into the mug. For my Mom, as her kitchen is done in Strawberries.

And finally made some Record Bowls. 33rpm records, heated and moulded into a bowl shape. NOT for food items but great for keys and such... The one with the RCA label is going to my brother who is a huge music buff and enjoys vinyl.

When I first saw the word "Rubon" I was saying it like Rue-bons.... Then a lightbulb came on and it's Rub-ons -- as in rub them on your paper. LOL

I had bought some sheets of Rubons many moons ago but hadn't used them -- until now... made this super fast and easy card for my hubby's best friend's birthday. Simple, manly, and just love the bird cage image. The sayin on the front has said "A little birdie to ME"... but I just used a marker, inked up the all of the words but the "me" part and stamped. Then I used a small alpha set to make the word "us".

An old Christmas ornament new again

I bought this Christmas ornament for a quarter knowing I could alter it... I love to find something and know I can make it my very own.

It's heavy and so pretty... and opens up to reveal a nice saying.

With Sculpy clay, I made an oval that would go over the orginal. Wrote what I wanted and edged the sides with a gold marker.

This will go on the 7' tree we up at our cabin in the mountains. Perfect. :) I love the cardinal and the stained glass here at the top.

We received a beautiful gift basket of tasty goodies from our neighbors, as I would go and take pictures of their place as it was being renovated -- along with the change of seasons. I was surprised they would give us such a great basket so I made this card as a thank you to them for it.

Just got the butterfly dies (from QuicKutz) and the new embossing folder called Flowers from the same company.

I hope they like it.

Steampunk necklace...

Steampunk has hit me. I recently found someone's blog and she did an amazing necklace. I had most of the stuff she used and went to the store today to pick up the chain and some beads. I had to make my own version. Mine is less stuff but I like it. And even sweeter that my husband thought it was cool piece.

Love that I had the K charm, the M charm and the D for Dream key charm... my monogram. :)

Using a new Sizzix die (train set)... Cotton for the smoke. :)

Love taking silk flowers and smearing glue and glitter on them. This one is amazing in real life with the light...

My favorite butterfly image. I went to a get together last weekend and this technique was demo'd. I had done it before (might even have samples on my blog from years ago) but love it so much, decided to play. A used dryer sheet over your stamped and colored image. A bit of glitter and a stunning card IRL.

Formica tile and about 7 layers of UTEE (Ultr Thick Embossing Enamel). It's so smooth, like glass. This is dedicated and going to April -- her hubby is in the military.

Another luggage tag -- this one stamped directly to the tile and added just a little bit of glitter. It's really pretty IRL.

I told you that I love this butterfly stamp -- it's big and my go-to stamp when I need a great nature image.

Every now and then I'll find a card or something that I want to duplicate as close as I can with what I have...

Here is the card I found online... For some reason when I first saw this, it didn't register as a card to me.

And here is my Copy cat version. I actually have mine covering a junk CD. So it's not a card -- I will add a ribbon on the back and the finish the back off with some nice papers. So it will be a piece of wall art. I love how mine turned out and all with what I had on hand.

I love how these cards come out but very time consuming... worth it though. My mom loved it and still talks about it being her very favorite card ever. (that's saying something considering this is my 11th year stamping.) :)

Stamped Tile & a few cards

Wooden tile is 6"x6"... Originally made for mosiac, I stamped on it. Painted with Gesso then stamped with Stampscape images. Colored with dye inks and stipple brushes. This will be a gift to someone dear to me. I know she is going to love it as she commented on one that was simular... something about the "I want that!" made it a little obvious I needed to make one just for her.

This is a thanks to my mom card and love the flower punch that is 3-D.

This is a card I did for a Topper Swap I was in. Not my norm to have a large topper on the card but it was nice to work outside of my box.

Birthday card for hubby's cousin, TR. He was moving back to Florida from up north, so I wanted to remind him of the beach! The images are stamped on white cs and then a piece of vellum is over them to make it misty...

Ribbon oh my!

Do I have ribbon? I think I have more then most stores.... But how I was storing stopped working for me a few years ago. I just didn't know what to do about it. I posted the question on how others store their ribbon and the one idea that clicked with me the best was what I went with. (Thanks Terry!) :)

Not only did I have too much ribbon to actually get to all of it, but it was getting really dusty AND my cat, as lovely as she is, decided she liked to unravel it and gnaw on the ends -- sometimes chewing on up to ten inches of my ribbons. A waste and pretty gross actually. I had a piece of ribbon on the floor once, about 4 inches of it and she ATE it. I kept an eye on her and she passed it okay but c'mon... eat my ribbon? It's not like she isn't well fed with goverment approved cat food.

How long did it take you ask? To unwind all of the ribbon off their spools, rewind it all around my fingers and put into baggies, punch holes in the baggies and sort them on the rings.... it took 9 hours over the course of two days, 210 baggies and
9 book binding rings. Oh, and about 5 doses of 800mg of Motrin. Really.

This is my before. I had them on tension rods in the corner of my office -- wedged between my last cabinet and the wall. Pure craziness!

This is with all but three tension rods removed. This would be a great way to store a little bit of ribbon... this did work for me for a while.

This is one of three 13 gallon garbage cans that got filled with the spools once I removed all of the ribbon.

And here are my afters... Ahhhh, feel the calm. They are individually bagged up in ziplock baggies. Punched a hole at the top of each bag and put them thru large book binding rings. Each ring holds one color of all different shades. One ring holds my black, white, creams and brown ribbons, since they didn't need their own per say.

And they all fit in two large Iris drawers (actually 1 and a 1/2 drawers so there is room for even more ribbon. :) Away from dust, dirt, and my cat. Sorry Ruby.

Sympathy cards x 4

Unfortunately, I had to make four sympathy cards yesterday to mail off today...

This first one is on the way to my Father In Law -- his Daddy passed away on Friday morning.

This one is going to my FIL's mom for the loss of her husband.

I love the colors on this and the leaves... This one is going to Renee, the cat she shared with her (ex) husband when they were married. She was a white Persian who was 18 years old.

And to John (and their son Joshua) for the death of their cat, Terah.

Beth loves to do "projects" in my office... with me or along side of me/ I had bought the foam dragonfly kit a few weeks ago and put it aside for just the right time... That time was tonight. She loved it. And it turned out great. When it's all dry tomorrow, we will hot glue a magnet to the back so we can use every day on the fridge.

And nothing like some good ol' fashioned cut and paste... Some construction paper, markers, glue stick and she is having so much fun (and making a big mess but that's okay).

There's been a lot of talk on a stamping group I belong to about using a sewing machine for stitching/paper piercing on cards. So I dug mine out of the back of the cabinet, put in four new batteries and created this card.

Bought a pack of these images and had to try Flower Soft for the first time... I have a bunch of different colors but wasn't inspired until this afternoon.

Paper Birdhouse

It's been a while since my last post but I've been creating quite a bit. All of my Christmas cards have been done for a while now...

And after a few trials and errors... I finally got it! This paper birdhouse stands 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide and deep. Thanks to Tamarra C for emailing me and answering some questions I had on this.

I submitted three and two of them got published! This magazine is fabulous in that it shows 25 cards using 9 different techniques. And shows step by step instructions on how to create each card!

My hubby was sanding down the train tracks with just the sandpaper and he was complaining of it not being comfortable... So I showed him my Tim Holtz sanding tool and he loved it. So much so, he went to M's and bought a new one for me, as he kept my original. :)

This was another demo that was shown on Saturday by Dawn. Lve this and can see making more of these with other stencils. Thank you to Terry for letting me have that butterfly image that she made as a die cut from her Silhouette electronic die cutting machine... You can see more about it HERE.

Lis showed us the Cricut and all it has to offer as well. It was a nice day of stamping, laughing, creating new memories, having some lunch and tasty dessert and shopping.

This past Saturday, I met up with some from my stamping group for our every other month get together.

I did a demo using Shimmer Mists and how to create some beautiful backgrounds on watercolor paper. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. There were many techniques to this card> Shimmer Mists, heat gun to speed up the drying time between layers, using dye inks for the backgrounds as well, embossing with white EP, which I don't do very often, stamping (love Archival Ink in Black), layering, odd way to fold the finished card... you get the idea. The shimmer on these are amazing, so much better then any photos I try to take of them.

Bikini Lady and Sock Monkey Party

The bikini lady stamp was given to me by my friend, Shelly... She thought it would look good in my stash. :) As you can see, she fits in nicely and made this card for Shelly as a thank you.

I put Crystal Laquer over the pool water so it really looks cool. Added some cut grass by the sign post that you can fluff the grass up. And Bikini Lady is attached with small pop dots so she is 3-D. Fun, fun.

Sock Monkey is going to a birthday party and so are we later on today. Bethany's friend turns three and we are going to have fun. Added Stickles (glitter) to the hat and cupcake. And the hat is attached with small pop dots so it's 3-D. I hope Kassidy likes her card.

I've been busy getting sick (two weeks before Thanksgiving), creating, getting published and a few things I can't post yet. But I have a ton of photos that I will share asap.

Our Thanksgiving was spent in Alabama with my inlaws and extended family and now we slide into the rush of Christmas and all it brings. Got the tree and decorations down from the attic. The tree is up and lit, decorations to follow tomorrow with the help of the princess. :)

I've been making some tags lately -- very much out of my norm! Having fun challenging myself to use what I have and not buy anything else right now. After the holidays, if I have a gift card or two, I will be blowing it all!!

So with that, I hope to post some photos in the next few days of at least a few things I've been working on.

Bethany loved the one necklace I made on Saturday so much, that she asked if she could make her own. So after her nap today, she did just that.

She painted her metal flowers and leaves...

She loved using the distress hammer... She was careful to not hit her fingers.

And she was so proud once the necklace was finished. Great job, don't you think?

I was so tickled to find out I was one of the three names! My magazines arrived today and I am one happy person. Doesn't take too much... some coffee, definately dessert, and some magazines from a lady I've never met but follow her blog for a while. Does it get any better? ;)

Gotta love him for putting me back together and making me feel human again.

He, along with my Neurosurgeon did a great job with the plates and screws that now make a home in my spine... C4, C5 and C6 to be exact.

I saw the doc the other day and got the A-OK that he's releasing me from his care... I'm so happy considering the last visit, he was talking about possibly having to go back in.

Made this for him as a thank you. If you ever need a good Orthopedic, send me a note!

SU! party at my home...

What a great way to spend the late morning and half of the afternoon! We had so much fun creating these two cards and post it note holder with a spot for a pen.

We laughed, we talked, we created, we ate, we laughed, talked and created a whole lot more.

From L to R:
Barb (SU! demo Goddess), Terah in the back, Linda F in the front, then Dawn and Pat (my mom peaking over Dawn's shoulder). Me sitting, then Lis (who had just come from the dentist and one tooth pulled later!), Brandy (my fabulous cousin-in-law) and Lynn.

I should have taken a picture of the spread I made for lunch... a Honey baked ham, au gratin potatoes, steamed string beans, applesauce, my 'famous" cucumber and pasta salad and rolls... along with endless beverages. Didn't think of it until after all that was away and dessert was out!

Lemon bundt pound cake and a Chocolate Fantasy... chocolate cake/chocolate pudding/Cool whip and crushed Butterfinger candy bar.

And the three projects we made.

Ladies, thank you for a wonderful day! And to my hubby and John, who took Beth to the Aquarium -- and didn't turn around and come home after the threw up all over the car and herself. The guys cleaned her and car up, went to the store and got her a new t-shirt and socks. (I packed extra shorts but not a shirt or socks)... and continued on their way... :)

A birthday card for Logan who turns one... (So happy how this came out. The bear is actually fuzzy, the balloon is 3-D and with Crystal Lacquer so it's smooth and shines... The wagon is cut out and layered and cut a slit by the paw so it looks like the bear is really holding it). I love when a card just comes together easily...

Poor gal is going to be lunch for the spider. I put Crystal Lacquer over the spider's eyes...

Aren't these three glittered guys fun?

This was fun -- the man and his rocket are on with pop dots and red glitter for the flames! The moon is a 1 1/2inch circle punch then put it back in the punch to take off some of the right side. I put pop dots on the moon as well.

I thought about adding some Crystal Lacquer on his face shield of his helmet too... might still do that!

I stamped the aliens and their space ship once on the card front and again on scrap. Cut out the one on scrap paper and adhered it over the original with pop dots. I then added some Crystal Lacquer to amek it look like they are behind glass.

I then added some glitter to their movement lines... Fun!

I love this image... He is one of my favorites. You can use this for a cocktail invitaion, a party of any kind, send to someone who had a little too much fun the night before... endless ideas!

Father's Day "wallet"

Edited to add: Hubby LOVED the wallet... Our daughter gave it to him and right away he said "that looks like a nice wallet." He was surprised to see it was paper and his "card" for Father's Day... and even more surprised when he saw a $20 in the slot where the gift card was in the photo. Told him that was money I saved up and not from the community fund. He thought that was even better. LOL

This "wallet" made of cardstock and some acitate to view the photo is for my husband.

It looks and feels just like a real wallet...

The measurements are 9" x 3.5"

Ran the outter layer of CS thru a Cuttlebug folder so it has the feel of 'gator skin or the like.

The inside I cut pieces of paper to hold a real photo of our daughter and on the other side, two slots -- one to hold a gift card (or money) and the other slot to hold a personal note.

I know he's going to get a kick out of this one.

If you google tri fold cards, you will get a bunch of links to view... I had to try this card out and I must say: I am addicted! I've done two so far.

They are fun and love how many panels and areas you get to decorate.

The scoring and cutting are easy. The hard part is figuring out what papers I want to use with what stamps and embellishments! Fun, fun!

This one will be for my husband on our anniversary this coming September. Five years married and 6 1/2 together. It seems like yesterday we met for the first time. Since his favorite color is orange and he's quite the green thumb in the garden, I know he will enjoy this... the flowers, the cool butterfly (can you see the women in the design? There are three of them.), the cute ladybug charm, as we know ladybugs are a wonderful welcomed visitor to your garden, and the stamps. I'll write a note on the back.

And this one is for my mom's birthday that is in December. These are so addicting to make! I see more creating going on soon with these...

Wallpaper cards!

Years ago, I used so much wallpaper in my cardmaking, they called me the Wallpaper Queen. It's been years since I touched the stuff and thought, why not.

It's great to recycle the wallpaper into pretty cards... and it's free, as the stores would just be throwing them in the trash. They are happy to give them away.

Unexpected card...

This card sort of just happened little by little...

Earlier in the day, I took a piece of cardstock, tore some tissue paper up and glued it down with Mod Podge (love that stuff!). Did about four layers of tissue paper. Set it aside and didn't think about it the rest of the day.

I remembered a challenge on one of my stamp groups -- you had to use Alcohol Inks (AIs).

So I put the "Cabin Cupboard" colors on my applicator and quickly rubbed it right over the tissue paper. Love it! It's still glossy but shows the wrinkles of the tissue paper pieces. Reminds me of aged leather.

Make-up Mother's Day...

Since hubby and I were in England/France for a 16 day vacation without our daughter, and we were away on the actual day of Mother's Day, we (he) said we would celebrate it on the Sunday after our return.

Well... life got busy and sweet hubby had a memory slip, so he promised we would celebrate today. And we did.

I got to sleep in -- and actually woke up at 8:30am only to think I would lie there a minute longer only to roll over again at almost 10am! I hadn't been able to sleep past 7ish since we've returned, so this was sweet!

I stroll down a bit after 10am to be given kisses and hugs by both. Hubby had breakfast goodies for me.

And I got these beautiful flowers and the best card. Life... is... great...

I recently bought this stamp and love it. Quickly colored in with direct to ink pads and my water filled pen.

Inside stamped with a fairly new set of numbers and the "cherish every day" stamp is one for a huge set of clear stamps. I've had them a year maybe and first time using (they were a gift) and thought this was the perfect little touch.

5/23 Edit to add: I can now say it was a fun evening, as we went to Jennifer's SURPRISE birthday party hosted by her hubby. It was a great time and we were glad to be a part of it. Happy Birthday, J !

I got some stamping done today! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Made a card for Karen in the UK... "Thank you berry much" is stamped on the inside. I put on some Crystal Lacquer onto the jar and cut out a second jam label and attached it with mini pop dots.

Alcohol inks! (and a new saying stamp I bought while in the UK -- it's from Tim Holtz's line.)

Another new stamp (the princess) and had the saying stamp. But since the saying is really large, I stamped it on shrink plastic and shrunk it down to about 1" x 3/4".
I also used Stickles on her crown, wings and wand. The close up is blurry but you can really make out the sparkle. :)

Last day to ponder & travel...

This is the view from the back yard of where we stayed. You can see the Gherkin and the roof to the walkway for the underground (train). I loved hearing the train come in and leave during the day and night (it started at 5:30am and stopped around 1am). Although we didn't hear it when we slept and we got so used to it, we didn't always hear it during the day... But it was a sound I found relaxing.

As I reflect on the last bit of Gu... I'll miss you, Gu... (a lot!)

What a sight! With the tour we took, we paid to get up close to the stones... We didn't have to stay on the path. We were allowed to wander everywhere we wanted. Stonehenge is a must to see!

We signed up for one tour -- it went to Stonehenge, Lacock (a little village where we had lunch, and finally, to Bath (The Roman Baths!)

Here we are waiting for the tour bus. We were up and out of bed at 3am, downt the street waiting for the bus at 4am, dropped off to our stop at 4:25am and then had a short walk to the hotel, which was the pick up point for us.

It was cold! It was windy! And did I mention it was cold??!!!

We got to the hotel only to find the doors not unlocked yet. So we stood outside for about 20 minutes and then someone finally unlocked the doors, so we got to sit inside. Ahhhhhhhh, warmth...

Leaving Liverpool - Destination London...

Our weekend in Liverpool has come to an end and it was fun. Now we are headed back to London via First Class on the train. Nice...

We have "dollar stores" and Britian has 99p (pence) stores. Great stuff!!

That bar is where we had dinner Sat. night and breakfast on Sunday morning. They do close for a few hours but when we were eating our eggs and toast, there were many who were drinking beer!
